The little boy for whom The Storm Tree was written would have been 25 years old on March 6th, 2006, the date of publication of this book. Rather than being a melancholy event for its creator, its appearance in print is a source of great joy. Celebratory of life, the tale - a quarter of a century in the writing and the painting - is a personal hymn to freedom and love. The thrill of living out one's dreams and escaping the confines of the earth for the domain of air is a fantasy shared by many of us and is one strand in the story. Magical transformation of the self is yet another powerful theme. But the strongest thread woven into this fable is the conviction that it is passion and compassion that make us human, frail, flawed and ultimately good. Read the review by Kate Kellaway from the London Observer, April 16th, 2006. ReviewThe book is 46 pages, containing 23
images and a double sized endpaper (see below). All images are watercolour on
paper, 35.5 x 50 cm. |
