Friends of the Earth International was organized in June 1971 'to promote ... the conservation, restoration and rational use of the natural resources and beauty of the Earth.' An international secretariat was created a decade later but in 1982 it consisted 'of a single person whose main task is the production and circulation of FOE-Link.'
