Other handouts
Additional material
The course changed a little in 2001. However, there is still a considerable
overlap with earlier versions. The lecture notes for the old course can be found here . Moreover, the wealth of material to be found on the
old course
homepage may be useful. Note that some of the files there are in .ps format;
you should read the notes on printing at the bottom of the page if in any doubt.
Books
Those who would like another exposition of the material in this
course (or simply a few more worked examples) may wish to look at some of the
following books.
- Anton: Elementary Linear algebra (Wiley)
- Lay: Linear algebra and its applications (Addison Wesley)
- Nicholson: Linear algebra with applications (McGraw-Hill)
Those who like the more abstract side of the course might also
consider
- Friedberg, Insel, Spence: Linear algebra (Prentice-Hall)
- Schaum study guide: Linear algebra (Schaum)
There is also
an excellent free book on Linear Algebra available on the web:
Past examination papers
Actuarial
Science students should note that Section A in the 2003, 2004, 2005 and 2006 papers below
contains the Calculus questions sat by Mathematics students; a version of this
paper with questions from the Actuarial Science version of that course can be
found on the Cass website.
The material covered by this course changed in Autumn 2001. Thus the
remaining exam papers contain some questions which are no longer covered by the
revised syllabus. However, many of the questions are still relevant.
