Overview

Within health care two main methods of communication, verbal and written are utilised between patient and staff. They are often used synergistically, supporting each other. Both methods have their strengths and weaknesses. In verbal communication the information being given can be altered in light of feedback from the patient, both verbal and visual. This is not possible with written forms of communication, but the written form can act as a reference that the patient may refer back to at their own convenience.

In written information it is important that the message we want to pass on to the patient is. The information must therefore be readable and legible.

Results are shown for 13 hospitals. I have data to analyse on another 5, and I am awaiting a response from another 10 that were posted after Christmas.
